Talc lumps
Talc lumps are pieces of raw talc (soapstone) broken at the mine and sorted by hand. We grade them by colour and size and supply them un-ground in jumbo bags. Buyers mill them in-house or process them for resale.

What our talc lumps look like
Our talc lumps are foliated. They split into flat, layered plates and feel smooth, even soapy. The rock is soft enough to scratch with a fingernail (Mohs 1). White lumps are bright and flaky; some pieces are slightly translucent at the edges.
They are supplied as broken, hand-picked pieces rather than crushed product. Size classes are agreed per order. Company records split material from Afghan sources into big lumps (over 20 mm) and small lumps (over 5 mm).
Colour grades
Sorted into four colours
Colour is the first thing buyers specify for lumps. It is set during hand sorting and carries through to the powder. Grades are white, grey, green and coffee.
Selection
How talc lumps are sorted
Sorting happens in walled yards at the mine. Workers remove foreign rock by hand and split the lumps by colour and size. Inspectors check the piles before bagging.

Lump yield depends on the deposit
Not every tonne mined comes out as lumps: some breaks down into fines. Company records give these typical splits by source. They explain why lump availability and size classes differ between origins.

What are talc lumps?

What lump sizes can you supply?

How much of a deposit comes out as lumps?
It depends on the source. Company records give roughly 95 % lumps for Parachinar talc, about 50 % for Haripur talc, and for Afghan talc about 50 % big lumps, 20 % small lumps and 30 % fines. These are typical values, not a guarantee for a particular shipment.
How are talc lumps packed and shipped?
Lumps are filled into jumbo (ton) bags and loaded into containers at the warehouse. Bag type, labelling and the container loading plan are confirmed per order.
