For a mining company, sustainability comes down to site practice and the communities around its mines. This page lists the work SKZ describes, and marks where photographic evidence is still being gathered.
Selective extraction and hand sorting mean the mine takes the talc and leaves waste rock in place. Less material is moved and less is trucked.
In the plants, cyclones and dust collectors on each mill line keep fine powder in the process. Staff wear helmets, masks and uniforms, as the photos across this site show.
SKZ runs tree and fruit-tree plantation projects near its mining areas. The aims are to restore vegetation, limit soil erosion and give fruit trees to local families.
Drawing on its Japanese partnership, SKZ promotes farming methods such as drip irrigation and careful soil management with farmers near its operations.
Young Pakistani geologists get hands-on field training with Japanese experts: mineral identification, geological mapping and resource evaluation at working sites.
Mining, sorting and yard work is done mainly by people from the surrounding areas. This keeps income and skills in the regions where the talc is found.
